It is the 2023-2024 school year, and Rockport Elementary is excited to support our students' growth in academics, as developing citizens, and in our kiddos’ pursuits to be the best versions of themselves they can be.   Everything we do is focused to ensure that ALL STUDENTS are provided the best education possible ALL THE TIME!

Our teachers are pursuing their own professional growth this year through ongoing coaching in Literacy Instruction.  Jami Denham, who has been our Intervention and Reading Teacher for many years, is taking on a new role.  She will be working under a state grant promoting improved literacy instruction and implementation of the Science of Reading strategies and best practices.

We will be implementing more 3Es programming.  3Es (Enrollment, Enlistment, and Employment) refers to connecting students to resources and information about education and career opportunities.  We often ask kiddos what they want to be when they grow up, and often students reply with a limited understanding of all the options available to them.   One of our focuses as a corporation is to enhance our programs at all grade levels in an effort to help students:

  1. Recognize their own strengths, preferences, and proficiencies.
  2. Connect with career and educational opportunities that align with their interests and strengths.
  3. Explore those opportunities more in depth and in ways that provide more hands on and direct connections.

Those are just two of the key areas we are working on to grow as a school this year.  By improving and enhancing what we do, we hope to continue to provide the awesome experiences and educational opportunities we have in the past and make those opportunities even better!

Parents, I look forward to working with all of you this school year.  As always, my door is always open, my phone on, and my email ready for questions, concerns, and comments you may have.   Parental involvement in our school community has always been a strength.   Research demonstrates that such involvement is one of the key factors in determining student success in school.    If you would like to be more involved, let me know.  I can point you in the right direction.   Keep reading to your kiddos every evening.  Rebels Are Readers!!!!

Finally, our theme this year is Heavy, High, And Far.  Why?  The idea came from this video:

The video reminds us of the things we do for those we love.  Those we care for.  And as a team at Rockport we care for and love our students.  We want the best for them in every way possible.

Heavy.  High.  And Far.

Heavy - When our students come to us with things too heavy to bear. When they think the workload is too much or that they can’t do what needs to be done.  We help them lift those burdens, we support them as they work through those challenges, and we help them bear the weight of things that might stand in their way of learning and growing.

High - When our students can’t imagine reaching for the high goals and expectations we set.  When they can’t believe how high they’ll soar.  We work to inspire them to reach higher than they ever thought possible.

Far -  And when our students need that one person, that hero, that champion who will walk with them that extra mile on their journey.  We go far.

Heavy. High. And Far.  As a Rockport family, this is who we are and what we do.

I am looking forward to another awesome year!
